WHAT IS UBUNTU?

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution operating system created by a community of international developers. It can be used on desktops, laptops and servers. Its main advantage is stability and ease of installation. It is free for anyone, who wants to download it. Every six months a new version of Ubuntu is released. Also, every 18 months you get security updates on your desktop and server which is also free. Ubuntu is available in over (55) different languages. It gets its name from an African concept “humanity toward others”, “we are people because of other people”. Their philosophy is "software freedom that brings the benefits of software to all parts of the world."

WHY UBUNTU?

Because Ubuntu Linux is the only truly free operating system, that runs on UNIX and inherits its stability, efficient memory management, outstanding performance, and enhanced system security. There is no need for costly licensing, support fees, time-consuming patch management. By the way, did we mention....FREE? Not only the operating system is freely downloadable, ALL Ubuntu applications are also FREE. We're talking: Office, AntiVirus, graphics, audio, programming software and tools...all free. What other reason do you need to change your expensive, slow, and crashing Windows XP or Vista to Ubuntu?

Not yet convinced? Let's take a closer look:
Performance:
-> Leave your Ubuntu and Vista running for two days. You'll discover that Vista slows down its performance dramatically over time but Ubuntu always runs at the same speed. Why? Because of memory leaks, a term that describes inefficient memory management. Simply put, when an application is closed, whatever memory resources it was using, should be returned back to the pool so other programs can use it. Ubuntu is very efficient in managing this operation, Vista...not so much.
-> Nowadays, to run a commercial operating system, such as Microsoft's Windows or Apple's OSX, you need lots of computer power, superfast memory and video cards. The minimum requirement is 1GB of RAM, 256MB of Video RAM, Pentium 4 processor. Not so fast, Ubuntu runs on as little as 32MB of RAM, on a Pentium processor, with any video card.
-> A new version of kernel makes use of SMP, Symmetric Multiprocessing which is supported on slow machines but it also takes advantage of the new generation of dual core Pentium machines. The same operating system does all of it. Isn't that great?

Price:
-> FREE
-> The Operating System and all applications are FREE
-> Hundreds or thousands of dollars in software are FREE

Easy Operation:
-> Four desktop areas that lets you conveniently switch between working documents.
-> Intuitive desktop Interface lets you run any operation with minimum effort on your end.
-> You install and update applications from within your desktop with just a single mouse click.

Enhanced Security and Stability:
-> Ubuntu's kernel design provides system stability as well as security. Carefully designed login process (including case sensitive user name and password), and data protections effectively protects Ubuntu users from unintended system exposure thus minimizing the risk of hacker's attack.
-> Ubuntu, because of its design, and lack of support for ActiveX components is less susceptible to virus infections.
-> Multiple boot options designed for various scenarios allow users to recover Ubuntu from hardware failure via semi- or fully automated process, whereas other operating system would require reinstallation and would result in loss of data.

Ubuntu Community Support:
-> Questions, concerns, ideas can be posted to the community forum for other users/developers to read. Unresolved issues, persistent problems, or system related questions can be addressed at www.ubuntu.org.
-> Ubuntu Community makes sure, that Ubuntu is, and will continue to be free. Each new application (including the Ubuntu Operating System itself) is accompanied by the source code that explains the design, and helps and encourages to make changes to it.

And by the way, Ubuntu CD/DVD lets you try it before installing it. You test-drive the fully functioning operating system by running it off a CD/DVD, withouth having to install any of its components. Ubuntu Live CD makes it possible. What other program lets you do that?
